How to check for 'corrugation' in crane sheave grooves?

MAINT-003 · Maintenance
Use a go/no-go gauge to measure sheave groove depth and profile. Replace sheaves when grooves exceed manufacturer specifications or show uneven wear patterns.
Corrugation in crane sheave grooves appears as irregular ridges or uneven wear that can damage wire rope and reduce lifting capacity. Inspect sheaves using a go/no-go gauge specific to your wire rope diameter, checking for proper groove depth, radius, and smooth profile. The groove should maintain its original curved shape without flat spots, sharp edges, or excessive wear that allows the rope to bottom out.
