How to troubleshoot a 'bird-caging' wire rope on a high-rise tower crane?

TR-006 · Troubleshooting
Immediately stop crane operations and inspect the rope. Bird-caging indicates core failure requiring rope replacement, not repair.
Bird-caging occurs when the wire rope's inner core fails or breaks, causing outer strands to balloon outward and separate from the rope body. This creates a cage-like appearance and represents a critical safety hazard that requires immediate action.
Reference: ASME B30.5 Mobile and Locomotive Cranes standard
Remember: "BIRD-CAGE = STOP-INSPECT-REPLACE" (Bird-caging means Stop operations, Inspect immediately, Replace rope - never repair)
