How to perform a soil proctor test for crane outrigger pads?

SITE-004 · Jobsite
A soil proctor test determines maximum dry density and optimal moisture content to ensure adequate ground compaction for crane outrigger loads.
The Standard Proctor Test (ASTM D698) or Modified Proctor Test (ASTM D1557) establishes the relationship between soil moisture content and dry density. Collect representative soil samples from the crane setup area at depths where outrigger loads will be transmitted, typically 2-4 feet below grade. The laboratory test involves compacting soil samples at varying moisture contents in a standard mold using specified energy levels.
