Who is responsible if a crane mat fails: The mat supplier or the crane company?

LEGAL-501 · Liability
Liability depends on the contract terms and whether the failure resulted from defective materials, improper installation, or exceeding load limits.
Crane mat failure liability typically falls on whoever breached their contractual duty or acted negligently. The mat supplier is generally responsible for manufacturing defects, providing incorrect load ratings, or supplying materials that don't meet specified requirements. The crane company assumes liability when they exceed the mat's rated capacity, improperly distribute loads, or fail to inspect ground conditions before placement.
